When Prince Jairo is threatened into a marriage with his belligerent sister after he becomes the new crown prince of the Jarwyan Kingdom, he gladly takes on the job of finding and capturing Princess Kestrel of the Ravian Kingdom.

In the East, 14 year old Karsim is down with guilt after the entire Ravian Kingdom is ravaged after he seeks refuge with them. Aided by the young Ravian princess, Kestrel, they now journey to the Barwadyn Kingdom for refuge and to determine whether Karsim really is the Wind Mage.

But as their journey progresses, Karsim begins to realize that there is more to Kestrel than that which meets the eye. 

On the other hand, Jairo not only begins understanding that his brother's death was no simple accident, he also realizes that he may not hate his sister after all. 

On both ends, far more dangerous threats lie ahead.
