With no other option but to run, two brothers take to the road in a stolen Cadillac.

Cops, child protective services, the shady government agency that's hunting them, their troubled past...the list of what they're running from could go on and on.

Their journey takes them across the American west, through the empty and hollow places, and perhaps to the very edge of what they know of as reality. Along the way they encounter friend and foe, ghost towns that spread, zombie dogs, and whatever...*that* is in the backseat.

...We were so caught up in the shared moment of care free joy to notice the midnight grey Toyota pickup truck speeding directly towards us. Meters before impact dad finally caught on to what was about to happen, despite it being day the approaching vehicle's headlights blinded us as our cars breaks slammed on, the sound of the tires melting away as the rubber tires scraped against the pavement filled the air and the scent of burning rubber overwhelmed my nostrils, despite our efforts the brakes didn't slow us down, we were to late. A few years pass and Astra finds it difficult to deal with the trauma she experienced as a young child, but surrounded by friends and throwing herself into education she starts to heal, until she meets Jason. In the beginning Jason was a kind, caring guy who seemed genuinely interested in getting to know Astra, but not everyone is who they seem to be. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ TW LIST!!!! The Joy Thief

9 parts Complete

Willa stayed in her bed when a spaceship landed near her home and the interstellar invaders she calls Ironhides abducted children from her neighborhood--her sister among them. Now, along with her best friend, Isaiah, Willa will risk a journey to the Earth colony on the planet Nexpernon to bring her sister home. He has no name, only a rank, Fifth. He's been kept in the dark about most details of his mission. But a few directives hum in his mind: take all essence of joy the humans have in them, and then leave them where they fall. His job is to protect his Commander, and to ensure the portal his kind uses to get to Earth remains a secret forever. Thrown together in a vehement, unfamiliar situation, Willa and Fifth should hate and fear each other. But when Willa kills his Commander and Fifth deserts his unit, their survival depends on trusting one another. And their ability to work together might be the only hope to restore joy to all of humanity.
