Nico Claven was a young teenage wizard with fire magic, or so he believed so. Grown up in an orphanage along with a few of his friends, he didn't know much about the world outside the dense forest that surrounded his home.

After a large, painful fight with his foster-mother, Grandine, he runs off into the city like he does after every fight. Only this time, he is determined to stay. He runs into a girl named Lilias Casten, a mage infamous for blowing things up with her undeveloped weapon magic. He strikes an immediate friendship with her after a horrible first meeting, and helps fight the local guild that have been terrorizing her and her grandmother for their "payment." However, in the process, he uses his pure fire magic, one of the forbidden types of sorcery, and is taken back to the orphanage by his friends, unknowingly living Lilias to fend for herself against the Corsic Military.

When Nico hears that his new friend was taken prisoner and was being held for execution, he and his friends storm the plaza, rescuing Lilias, but getting himself tangled with the government.

Now on the run from the government of Corsia, he is forced on a journey with his friends to keep hidden. One question bothers him as he runs around the country, catching wind of their magics' origin.
