In the beginning. The mother of creation once walked this plane of existence just like we do.
In her time here she created two beings, one called the Fey and the other called Humans.
But they were envious of each other. And wouldn't get along.
So the mother did what she had to do. They separated them on different planes by a gate.

But centuries later, the gate...began to open. The Fey saw it as an opportunity to establish communication with the humans

He stopped about halfway through the massive book. "Here." "What?" I whined. He pointed to a page titled 'Ekotians'. I leaned over to get a better look. "The book talks about what the native Ekotians were like," he explained. "Like how people used to say they were immortal." "OK?" I asked, furrowing my eyebrows. "That's just a theory." "Well what if they weren't wrong, but it was a little different," He said. It dawned on me. "Don't tell me you think I'm Ekotian."
