When Hope, a young woman from the West, escapes a life-threatening situation, she finds herself adopted by the Nordic tribe Polaris. However, when she is selected to be a rune chaser, Hope quickly discovers that there are many secrets of life which had been kept hidden from her, and she begins to rethink the world that she thought she knew.
It does not take long until Hope and her new found family become key players in a war between two lands, fighting with powers that she had imagined only to exist in fairy tales. Yet in the midst of the conflict, they quickly realize that without help, they were in a fight for survival, rather than conquest.
