It is said in China that it is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. 
But what if the darkness smothered the candle? 
What if you never possessed a candle in the first place?

Flair has stepped fully into the world that rests just beyond the one we know. She has proven herself strong, brave and intelligent. But sometimes that is not enough. Flair has left the light behind her and when you’re the living dead, it’s difficult to hold onto your own. She must try not to succumb to the darkness that not only surrounds her but also lives within. 

And while she struggles not to lose everything that made Mary Smith special, another much older shadow is moving swiftly closer. A shadow that terrifies even the Vampire Council.

Will Flair be strong enough to halt the growing darkness? Will she be able to stop it taking those she cares about? Most importantly, will she want to?

The light grew brilliant and bright for a brief moment, then disappeared. I pried the grate off the wall and poked my head down there but saw no light. I was alone in the house and far too scared to go back to sleep so I got up and wrote the first draft of this story. To this day I have no idea where the light came from.
