For most of the book Cloudstep is an apprentice, known as Cloudpaw, an apprentice of Cloudclan. She is focused on her training and helping others. One day she, Flowerpaw, Nightpaw and Lovepaw found a scared, big eyed blueish-grayish she-cat on their territory, known as Bluepaw an apprentice from Lakeclan. Cloudclan let's her stay but Bluepaw has a deep secret from everyone and they soon find out what it is, it ruins a lot of friendships, and Cloudstep is left heartbroken but things take a turn after.
