"-- And so, the guardians of the Tree of Feelings had arisen; chosen and created to guard this very special tree until the end of time. Their names were Nightmare and Dream. Nightmare was destined to guard the black apples of Negativity, and Dream was destined to guard the golden apples of Positivity.

 "At first, the brothers had been surrounded by nothing but forest as far as the eye could see. They had each other, and that is all they needed. Until, one fateful day, the forest was gone and villages arose from around the tree. A fence was placed between the tree and the villagers to keep it safe."    - But it wasn't enough to prevent their downfall, and now the brothers are forever separated because of something neither of the brothers saw coming.

Dream always felt the weight of expectations on his shoulders and they've only grown worse now that he's a Star Sans. Save this AU, rescue that person, stop Nightmare over there, and make X person smile! It's a never-ending cycle of tasks and he gets asked more about why he hasn't done it sooner or defeated his brother yet than thanked for what he accomplished. He feels trapped in this position and doubts if he didn't have his positive aura that anyone would care for him. Most like him for the joy he brings or what he can give them. Nobody around him ever feels genuine without a doubt in his head. Add in the stress of protecting one Star Sans(Swap) and keeping the other(Ink) from starting trouble and you have a positive guardian ready to break under expectations. Then you have Error, the destroyer of AUs. His reputation speaks for himself and builds all the expectations he needs whenever he steps foot into another AU. He's as bad an omen as a black cat crossing your path. Others assume he is bad because of his "freakish" or glitching appearance. He has accepted these but it gets tiring when he already has the voices bossing him around or Fate reminding him that he should do more destruction. But he doesn't limit himself to destruction. He watches UnderNovela, admires the stars, and appreciates what he can. He pushes the limits of what is expected of him or disregards them completely. A trait that Dream eventually finds himself admiring in him, the known enemy of his friend. He knows that Error's feelings are genuine since he doesn't change in his presence(still an angry manchild). So when Dream gets wounded and stuck with Error on a whim, where will it take them? Will it be a mistake remaining in a hatred of enemies or will it change them both for the better? Could this admiration open Error up to corrupting Dream or will he be the influence Dream needs to against expectations and live for himself?

But Nightmare and Dream Are polar opposites, so Nightmare can't really get along with his brother's friends, nor Dream get along with Nightmare's, if he had any. But don't worry, I throw in so many subtle/not-so-subtle intimate moments with all the Sanses that it makes it worth the wait :D - I'll throw in some bonus chapters with the other Sanses for extra (non-canon) fluff that doubles as a breather from the story, too - Is the relationship toxic? Maybe. I mean, this is canon Nightmare after all. But that's the beauty of a fictional story, no? - A lot of the symbolism and hidden meanings aren't obvious, so you might have to be on the lookout to see them (and keep in mind: Night doesn't openly show many emotions, so the devil is in the details) - I'm not going to spoil anything, but for all you anxious readers out there like me, I'll divulge I'm a sucker for happy endings *wink* - It's my interpretation of the characters (kept as canon as possible)
