Ever and her team had been locked in the arena for seven years, and throughout those seven years she has been tortured, played with and lied to. Her trust in everyone was slipping and her confused feeling for the boy she's known since she was six, was starting to pull her back -- keeping her from being who she was and her duty. 

Her duty was to rid the world of this terrible game called, 'The Emag', (formerly known as 'The Bloody Desires'). Why? She didn't want others to experience her pain and confusion. She wanted children to be safe -- to be loved. Not torn to pieces by machines and not starved to death.
