Nachdem Carter der Konversionstherapie erfolgreich entflohen ist, machte er sich auf dem Weg zurück nach Hawkins - nur um dort festzustellen, dass seine alte Heimat einem Erdbeben zum Opfer fiel und Eddie Munson als Mörder irgendeiner Schülerin gesucht wird.
Natürlich ist Carter davon überzeugt, dass Eddie unschuldig ist und da er selbst nicht gerade eine besonders weiße Weste trägt, beschließen sie beide, dass sie flüchten müssen.
Also steigen sie beide in den Van und machen sich auf nach Kanada - doch bis sie dahin kamen, mussten sie noch einige Stolpersteine überwinden.
