It's the year 2085. This takes place after World War 7. Since 2021, the world has been through 5 world wars, one after another. As you can expect, after 64 years of war, the entire world is in ruins. Animals are extinct, plant life is dead, and humans are hardly surviving. The government doesn't need that happening so they create the human zoo.
Every human taken to the zoo is given the same clothes and a pair of earrings that contains the robotic voice that directs their every move. The zoo provides everything the humans need- food, water, sleep, social time, and most importantly, "the choosing". Every night, one girl and one boy of 17 years are chosen for each other by the government. These two people are then given the task of bearing children so the human race will never die. It's a perfect utopia that lets everyone forget about the horrors that await outside in the "real world". And the best part is? Nobody gets in or out of the zoo. The government officials that brought everyone there say it's for their good, for their safety.
But what if that's not true?
Zeno, Zoo Number 31169, is 5 days away from turning 17. Five days away from being forced to love some girl for the rest of his life. Zeno, however, doesn't want that. Stewart, Zoo Number 31069, turns 17 a day before Zeno will. Stewart thinks the idea of some outside force making decisions for him is revolting. With their birthdays coming up so soon, the two boys are terrified that they'll get "chosen" with a girl they'll never love. Now Zeno and Stewart have no choice but to escape the Zoo. It's the only way they'll ever get to love who they want - each other.
