When all the debutantes of London in 1820 were polishing their waltz, Lady Lucille Bellington was polishing her pistol. When they were honing their smile to hypnotise a potential husband, Lucille was honing her smile to irk her father. When they were perfecting embroidery, she was perfecting martial arts. She has no desire to marry and expressed it to her father, the duke of Fordshire, quite evidently clear. The duke of Fordshire however, vowed to employ anything in his means to get Lucille married even if it requires asking a notorious and desperate rake to seduce his daughter in exchange for his support. Hades, Duke of Trent, happened to be the desperate and notorious rake he required. Trent wanted to solidify his influence in the parliament by passing a bill but when majority of the peers vetoed, his influence might be in jeopardy. The duke of Fordshire's support is just what he needed. How hard can it be to seduce a diffident, dull and pliant virginal lady? Contrary to his expectation however, the only thing he guessed right about Lady Lucille is virginal. And when he saw her for the first time, he was in lust at first sight with her. With the orchestration of a scheme to get Lucille married, she found herself entrapped and in danger of marrying Trent. Thus, she employed all the ways she could, to deem herself unqualified to be the duchess he wanted. Little did she know, Trent already decided to have her in his bed. And so she was bamming him, as he was bamming her. But he wasn't supposed to desire her. Worse, it wasn't in his plan to fall in love with her. And what if she finds out that she's initially just one of his pawns?

But doing research I found that bears are not common wild animals in England. I'm American and live in a state where bears are common. In doing research, I found that in the regency era there were wild cats that were referred to as phantom cats, panthers, jaguars, or leopards. Although, some accounts claim there is no such thing and stories were exaggerated. Anyway, for story purposes, this phantom cat exists. I know it may not sound realistic, but as I said before, there were stories about these wild cats in some of my research. I also came across stories of the aristocratic and higher class bringing these exotic animals to England to show off and look grander to others. It reminded me of someone purchasing a dog as a puppy, thinking it'll be great. Then months later realizing these cute puppies grow up and destroy your home and chew everything up. I pictured a rich woman insisting she have one of these pure black cats on one of her many voyages to far off lands and her rich husband buying her the exotic animal. Then as this cat grew and suddenly the realization that it's a wild animal and could potentially kill someone, these high society people may just decide to let the animal go in the woods to fend for himself. Now this cat is alone in a land he doesn't belong and trying to survive, perhaps resenting man for the cruel way he was treated. Now I feel sorry for the panther. Anyway, that's the backstory on the panther and why it may be in a place it's not supposed to be.
