Kate Hopper thought she'd finally had everything taken from her.

Since her father's death eight months before, she'd broken up with her boyfriend Steve Harrington and moved to New York City for school, leaving everything she knew behind. When she loses touch with her sister's adopted family, however, and finds government agents on her doorstep, she makes a run for it, going to the only other place she knows.
