Kaz and Tony have been best friends since they were 8 years old, they've always had each others backs and looked out for each other. The big difference between Tony and Kaz being that Tony was this genius billionaires son, grew up with loads of money in a big mansion, and eventually became a genius billionaire himself, even became known as this famous playboy too. While Kaz did not grow up being a billionaires kid, living in a big mansion and having lots of money.

Since she was 7 she lived with her adopted father Graham Sanchez, they lived in a two floored house (three if you include the basement), in a normal sort of neighborhood. She is very intelligent and even graduated from MIT but only got in through scholarships because that was the only way she could afford it. Tony would always try to offer her money and things, but she would always turn him down because she didn't want any of his money and would always try to do things herself. She also didn't want to be seen as someone who is trying to be close to him for his money, when she is Tony's best friend because she cares so much for him and they've been through so much together.

No one really knew who she was or that she was Tony's best friend (except for close friends), because she wasn't anyone famous like how Tony is the famous genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist. Even though no one knew who she was she still kept her name secret in case things got out about her close friendship with the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist so as to protect the one man who she considered to be her father and only family besides Tony that she has.

Although after Tony goes missing for a couple months after his trip to Afghanistan for a weapons demonstration, when he is found and returns home, he returns a bit different and things start to happen (possibly because someone might be too oblivious to see it) and she discovers him trying to build something that will change both their lives forever.
