In the kingdom of Havendale, people are starving. The king doesn't notice the poverty, but he does notice the mysterious Black Bandit who keeps stealing food from nobles and him. When the Black Bandit gets caught trying to steal food from Prince Ross's ball, the Black Bandit has to make a deal in order to protect her orphans and the other bandit.

Jane Ross and her mother Linda become sick. Jane's father Maurice abandons them to protect her baby sister Isabelle from getting sick. Jane's mother Linda dies and Jane is left an orphan. When Jane is grown, she meets Henry McCallum. They both fall in love, but Henry's brother King Victor wants Jane for himself.
