Life, the purest of them all, but pure in every sense. He is calm and very innocent, embarrassed when he finds out the conversation is about anything related to sexual topics. Death is, well, Death is the grim reaper. Cold, dead honest and very dark, death related humour. Deaths assistant is a horny mess, her name is something unpronounceable and everyone on the internet calls her "Mommy", we call her Fayona. And we live together. What, you didn't think they live in heaven and in the afterlife, did you? They're living somewhere, somewhere real that is. And me? I am Anthony. I'm the middle man, an average man with an average life. Or so that was. Or so it could have been. But I'm a comedian. Small and unknown, but I get around the bills and then some. And this is my life with Life and Death... and Fayona apparently.

Max has spent the past several thousand lifetimes as a Reaper among humans and, despite the pleasures of a tidy country home with a well-dusted library and a finely tuned Harley, he's starting to get bored. His best friend gives him some advice: "Drink some scotch. Bed a woman. Join a rock band. Get it out of your system, and get back to your dutiful service." Max tried, but he ended up getting drunk, marrying the girl in Vegas, and accidentally triggering a chain of events that could end with the destruction of the human race. Now he needs to make things right again but the Reaper quickly learns that the magic of being human comes with one grim reality.
