Christina Kostopoulos is having the worst year of her life and she's only sixteen. Her parents divorcing (finally!) is hard enough, but to find out her mom has cheated as well as her dad is too much. She won't go with either in this divorce. Instead, she moves up the coast to her grandma's fishing village, leaving behind the comfort and glamor of S.F. and private school to rough it in a cottage with no Wi-Fi.

But Christina is soon to find out that this sleepy fishing village-and the people in it-are not what they seem. Least of all her grandmother. Missing persons cases close in on the little town and turn into the gruesome murders of young men. And somehow, Christina's sweet, unassuming grandma is in the middle of it.

As the school year progresses, Christina finds she has less of a foothold in reality than she thought-as a sweet girl washes up on the beach, very eager to talk to her and to tell her all about the secrets of the deep and the violence on the shore... and the connection they have to her and her grandmother.

After his grandfather Theo's passing, James sets about clearing and cleaning up his grandfather's belongings before the estate sale when he runs into something peculiar. A box made of shells, worn shut with time, and hidden in the dark recesses of the past. The contents: a key, a brass heart, a journal and letters that leave behind a glimpse into a part of his grandfather's life that James never expected - a world of ancient magic, witches and wizards, mermaids and a love story strong enough to break any heart. The legends are real, partly. Atargatis, the first mermaid, was an ancient witch thrown into the sea by the hostile and fearful townspeople who didn't understand the magic they knew and sensed. What they didn't see was the consequences of their actions, Atargatis' use of magic and the creation of the mermaid with all of its magical abilities. Centuries later Ariana, a young daughter of the clan leader, lives her life in torment, torn between her love of everything under the ocean and the beauty of the boundless sky above. She discovers Theodore, a human, and falls so much in love that she can't fathom a life without him - an ideal that she will go to any length to stand by. What you think you know is but a small part of a much larger story, one that before now has never been told. Love is simply a transfer of energy from one of us to another, all of us connected in a web that we simply label "The Universe." Love and sacrifice have consequences, some which can never be foreseen.

Lara Tsovikian wasn't someone that went out much or engaged in social events. The ocean was the only place where Lara spent most of her time and felt like she belonged. Since moving right by the beach a couple years ago, life hasn't been the same for her. Lara lived with her father for most of her life and barely knew much about her mother. Although she wishes she knew what her mother was like, her father never brought it up. Of course, Lara was curious. Her world turned upside down when she encountered a boy named, Noah Storm. Noah was mysterious and seemed to know more about Lara than she knew herself. But he wasn't the only strange guy in town, and that unknown boy sparks up a forbidden magic that was contained long ago. As introverted as Lara was, would she get consumed in what would soon become of her and change her forever or would these unimaginable secrets isolate her even more?
