In the middle of the twentieth century, Billo, the daughter of a wealthy landowner in the pre-partition north India, lives in the lap of luxury, in a Haveli, a grand house surrounded by servants.
Billo's idyllic life is shattered and thrown into complete chaos by the independence and partition of India, in which a Muslim nation of Pakistan is born.
In the lethal riots following the Partition, Billo's father is murdered by a worker named Akbar seeking vengeance during the migration to India, and her mother dies of dysentery.
Left alone and helped by a field-hand, Rahman, Billo arrives in India without home or hearth. Rahman and Billo are just beginning to settle down when Akbar, with his insatiable desire for revenge, kidnaps Billo and takes her back to Pakistan to marry her and have a happy life.
At the end of her patience, Billo decides to take matters into her own hands. She emerges as a force to be reckoned with and avenges all the torture she suffered from Akbar and his hoodlum friends.
Billo overcomes the horrific events during the Partition and recreates a tranquil life of peace and prosperity.
