‹‹Once upon a time, there was a special child who never aged. To protect it from harm, I hid it within myself, until one day I forgot it was there.›› Adele and Nina, two inseparable sisters, once believed their family was an unbreakable fortress - a safe place where happiness felt eternal. But in a heartbeat, that safety shatters, and their world is forever changed. Their father, their stedfast anchor, has disappeared without a word. The man who once loved them has moved on, leaving them behind. What they don't know is that their world has been turned upside down, and the reality they know is built on lies. For years, they will navigate life under this shadow, viewing their existence through a lens distorted by someone else's deceit, bearing the immense pain of betrayal. But breaking free from this fictitious world isn't easy, for it demands confronting an even harsher truth: the person behind the deception is the one they hold most dear. "Hope is a Gentle Flicker" is a story that explores the fragile dynamics of blended families, the weight of unspoken emotions, and the ways love can become entangled in misunderstandings and hurt. But maybe, amidst the darkness, there may still exist a light - a delicate, flickering light that refuses to be extinguished. A love that, though unspoken, persists, quietly illuminating their path. *** This book is a memoir based on real events from my life. Thank you for joining me on this journey.

For the past 4 years that little girl has had me wrapped around her finger and I wouldn't have it any other way. Unfortunately I got stuck in traffic on the way over so I'm late for pick up. Once I get to Melanie's classroom I fill out the sign out sheet that's on the wall and make my way into the classroom. I faintly hear Melanie laughing so I know she's not upset from me being late. "Hey I'm so sorry. I got stuck in traff..." I said stopping mid sentence, stunned at the woman in front of me. Standing in front of me is someone I considered one of the most important people to me back in highschool. As soon as I looked into those Caribbean blue that I used to know so well, I knew it was her. It takes her a few seconds to realize who I am. She stands there stunned. We continue to stare at each other until she breaks the silence. "Josh?" She asks not believing it's actually me. "Hey Katie girl." Book 1 of the "Used to Be" Series Scarlett Fisher: the school's resident mean girl. Beautiful, smart (but doesn't let people know), charismatic, confident (or at least that's what everyone thinks.) The truth is, she's scared, Scared that one day people will see past her smile and charm, and see the person she really is on the inside. Scared that someone will remember who she used to be. ~•~ Now I know I seem like a bitch, and your probably thinking I'm your stereotypical mean girl, but I wasn't always like this, back when high school first started. I had a best friend who I thought I would be friends with forever. I was shy and timid, and I was foolish enough to believe what people told me. Back then everyone knew me as Arora. After the incident I decided to stop going by my first name, I had also learned that being mean, and not taking anything form anyone was the only way to get people to treat you with respect. ~•~ Arora Fisher: the girl most people didn't notice until they needed help with homework, the girl who was voted most likely to disappear and no one would notice. The girl who her believed in the good in others, who wanted to just give people a chance, no matter how many red flags. The girl who was lost to tragedy. ~•~ "We'll be broken together." He try's to smile, but he can't manage it and I nod, knowing how much pain he feels. "We'll be broken together." I whisper, after that we sit there, in an empty silence, neither of us wanting to be the first one to speak again, because it feels off, like the sound of our own voices might somehow break our hearts more.
