The Chariot of Elijah

They call it the Chariot of Elijah, named after the chariot that transported Elijah to heaven in the Biblical story. They hoped this starship would fulfill the purpose of its namesake, that it would take humanity to a new paradise after they destroyed Earth. But for many years it has brought us nowhere, and it has become a living hell. Greed and fear, love and hate-people have killed or been killed for a thousand different reasons, and we are no closer to peace. Some wards of the massive ship are essentially cut off from the main populous because of it. There is little law outside what's enforced by the military police, and even those who do their duty are being pushed beyond their limits.
