"Why are you avoiding me Ria? Look me in the eye and tell me what you see!"

I couldn't bring myself to meet his gaze. I know what would be upon his forehead when I look at him.
The numbers would be there, etched in red. The numbers that tell more than anyone ever wants to know. I can't even fake a smile and gaze back at Dustin with false hope.

Because the numbers don't change. Ever.
----------------

Ria has had the ability to see people's numbers. And no, this isn't a gift; it weights her down. She never understood the meaning of the numbers until they lowered her grandfather into the grave.

The numbers are dates. The dates when people die.

Pretty soon, she starts to notice a lot of people have the same number. With only a week left until that date, she's shocked to see the same number plastered to all the people in the city. Something's coming, but can Ria prevent it? Can she change the numbers and save those who she loves?
