The flyers had started to spread. They were absolutely everywhere; around every street corner, in every store aisle. At one point I remember seeing Mr. and Mrs. Lucas out at a gas station, they looked like they hadn't slept in weeks. I wondered if they had nightmares too. I bet they were worse. My dad had told Laura and I that we had a curfew, 7 o'clock sharp. He was afraid that Laura and I would be snatched. I didn't tell him that I was also worried about that, instead I hid my own pair of purple chucks way under my bed and went to sleep. 
At midnight, the house phone rang.
I hid under my sheets, praying to God that someone else hadn't been taken. 
I prayed.
