Amber was a slightly smarter-than-average teenager whose life was turned upside down after the sudden and unexplainable death of her family.

After Amber's family are announced dead, it is the start of all of Amber's misfortunes as she is forced to escape to a rural village miles (worlds) away.

The only ones to help Amber is a kind old couple with no living children or other relatives. The only problem Amber encountered after she escaped from the ones who had been targeting her was that Amber was no longer in modern times. Amber had somehow escaped into ancient China but not the one she learned about in history. 

She had escaped into a world that bore a striking resemblance to the ancient China of history, but now she was free from the pursuit of the enemies who destroyed her life, so she had to figure out what to do with her life.
