A gruesome killing at a Shanghai museum marks the beginning of a series of events that no one could have predicted.
Tasked with solving the crime, Zhao Yunlan, the young but capable leader of the city's Special Crimes Division, immediately notices a connection to Imperial China, and seeks out an expert to assist with the case.
Shen Wei, the youngest ever head of Shanghai Metropolitan University's Department of Ancient History, finds his quiet, uneventful life suddenly turned on its head by the presence of the charming, charismatic police chief.
Despite their drastically different personalities, the unlikely pair must quickly find a way to work together, as bodies escalate and stakes rise. But things take a sudden turn when Shen Wei's world is invaded by an unexpected danger emerging from the shadows, threatening the burgeoning relationship between the two men, and even the investigation itself.
This story is a fanfiction based on characters in the Chinese drama, Guardian, and the Priest novel of the same name. The plot is my own. I have tried to be accurate with all historical references and with the geography of modern day Shanghai, but I apologise in advance for any inadvertent errors.

Zhao Yunlan was a well-known Guardian of the human realm who hunted down even the most dangerous ghost that plagued the broken world, but a casual encounter with a mysterious professor at Dragon City University changed more than the chaos in which humanity found itself for hundred of years, he also changed to his own destiny. Shen Wei is on holiday but not the kind everyone else would consider and is shot by accident or not, he doesn't know, but he calls out for help and his other half answers even though they have not met. An old enemy returns, an old character also returns, and an old face leaves to start a new job. The main characters are taken from the TV series Guardian and adapted to suit the stories. The series was adapted from the book by Priest, who is a wonderful writer. Without her we wouldn't be able to enjoy following her brilliant characters. Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei were stunned when they both met with the nephew of the leader from that archeological team which has a similar face as Shen Wei. They worked together to find something hidden in that hotel when suddenly there were another groups tried to find the same thing which they didn't know what.
