In his last moments, Robotnik uses the last residual bits of emerald power to send the last 8 months  of his memories to the past. He was dying, so you can't really blame him for not specifying who would receive them, right?

    Eight months before Dr. Robotniks death, Agent Stone is preparing a Latte for his boss as usual, when he loses consciousness; and suddenly inherits Future Robotnik's memories. As the present and past is blurred by his knowledge of the future; he resolves not to just steer away from the Doctor's death; but to steer them towards victory. Should be easy; right?
