the byers' return to hawkins for winter break.
mike sends a letter to california before they come, so when they leave and his best friend (and love of his life) hates him, at least he'll see the letter. at least there's hope for their friendship.

the year is 1986 and the byers have moved to california while the rest of the crew remains in hawkins. max and mike travel to california to visit el and will. the friends spend time catching up and showing the crew around. after, mike, will, argyle, and jonathan decide to take a road-trip down to hawkins to see the rest of the crew. leaving max and el alone with joyce and hopper. but what will happen when mike and will are alone in a car together for 3 days? It's the summer of 1986 Will Byers is currently living in California with his mother, sister and brother. He constantly feels lonely due to his friends being in Hawkins and the fact he feels so out of place in this city. Mike wheeler is in Hawkins living his usual life with those closest to him, although the only difference is his girlfriend and best friend aren't with him. After months of sent letters and no reply, Will decides to try and move on. By doing this a new person grabs his attention meaning Mike is slowly leaving his thoughts. When Mike starts to notice wills lack of letters and lack of constant phone calls, he decides to take a trip to California to see what's going on. How will this turn out? Will the two friends get on? Or will the whole trip be filled with jealousy? And this time, not from will.

these characters aren't mine!! trigger warnings : violence, alcohol, mention of drug use, mention of abuse, language this fic focuses on 16 year old michael wheeler and 16 year old william byers. william byers is moving into a new neighbourhood with his father, his mother, his sister and his older brother. while will has to start a brand new school hes also struggling with family issues. navigating this new life is hard, and hiding who he is is even harder. michael wheeler has lived in hawkins all his life, he lives with his father, his mother, and his older and little sister. while his fathers beliefs on homosexuality pressure him to be someone hes not, he also has bad grades. but he has his friends. and his job, he can still make him somewhat happy... right?

This byler story takes place in modern times (also no upside down and Vecna bc they literally ruin everything), Will, Jane, and Johnathan, along with Hopper and Joyce, had moved to California the last day of summer, just before freshman year. Will left his friends, his town, the only home he had...Mike... But after a long school year, the three finally managed to get Joyce and Hopper to agree to let them go back to Hawkins for the summer, and of course, stay with the Wheelers. All credit of the art goes to the artist of the fanart I used for my cover :)))
