The rain poured from the sky, making Laurel's long, dark hair drenched and the ground slick with mud. The forrest added no cover from the storm she found herself sprinting through. The once beautiful Isle of Skye and their village of Frìth far behind her, she carried on with a scowl etched onto her face. She had no idea how she ended up out here, at night, in the rain.
All Laurel knew was this was not ordinary. This was not what was supposed to be happening. Mother Miera had all but given her the answers she was seeking about The Veil and the boy who could see through it. In her hand, she clutched the book that held all the answers she had poured over the last few hours.
Laurel recalled the folktales that Mother Miera used to tell her and her sisters. About the boy with eyes the color of moss and hair with ringlets. About how he would be the one to bridge the two worlds. Bring peace. Never in a million years would she think that those folktales were prophetic in nature.
Laurel cursed her naivety. Goddess, how could she have been so careless? As she raced through the forest, she hoped she would make it to the Edge where she had met the boy so many times before.
Now, she could only hope the boy would be up for a quest like no other to save the Village Fríth and her Father's kingdom.
