The story follows a nineteen-year-old boy Zhizi whose mother has recently gone missing after a medical examination. As he looks into his mother's death he realizes the seculded area in which he lived wasn't as peaceful as he had once thought and the outside world not nearly as horrific. When he meets the detective working on his mother's case he is met with letters she had written to herself. With the information at his disposal and the disappearance of his mother becoming a witch hunt, he is asked to evaluate the beliefs that he was taught and the image of himself as he pertains to society.
