Brock Rumlow made a terrible mistake 15 years ago. The one who had saved his life, he unknowingly condemned to a lifetime of misery by telling his bosses about her.

He had never forgotten the absolute terror he'd felt as he hung upside-down in that flipped over S.U.V., trapped, with the smell of gas and smoke engulfing him. He knew he was going to burn. He knew he was about to die a horrible death, screaming and alone with no one to know what happened.

As he struggled to accept his fate, a miracle happened. His crushed-in door was suddenly opened and he was dragged out and away from a would-be fiery death.

Roughly a year later, while Brock was away on a mission, the girl who had saved his life was captured. As it turned out, she was the only child of a Vietnam War era super-soldier experiment. Seeing what she was put through made him sick to his stomach.

He regretted ever saying anything about her, and had secretly been making plans to get both her and himself away from there. But it was not to be... Nearly four years into her capture, Brock was called away on an important mission, only to come back and discover that she had disappeared.

He never saw or heard from her again.

Then one day, nearly 10 years later, his whole world is upended when he sees her standing in the lobby of S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters!

He was suddenly afraid, afraid for what she might do. She was the only one left alive who knew about his involvement with Hydra. Though he had quit them after she disappeared, Rumlow wasn't sure just how the hell he had escaped detection after those Hydra files were leaked.

After S.H.I.E.L.D. had been rebuilt, Brock stayed with them, helping the Avengers.

But rounding that corner and seeing her there made everything rush back. Then her head turned, locking eyes with him.

What would she do now that she was free?

Tony smiled, clearly struggling to keep his voice steady as he hopped off his chair to kneel in front of me, taking my scarred hands in his rough ones. "Having you in our lives makes it more of an adventure. We wouldn't ever want you to leave, you are one of us okay? You're like a daughter to me, to all of us - hey, why are you crying?" "I'm sorry." I sniffled, roughly wiping the tears off my cheeks before I let him wrap me up in a hug. "I just never felt like belonged anywhere before and to hear you say that... it just means a lot to me." "Well, it's true Emily." Bruce smiled back as he put his hand on my shoulder as I kept my head buried into Tony's chest, saturating his shirt with my tears. "So don't ever think otherwise, okay?" -.-.-.- I do not own any of the Marvel characters in this book except for Emily. All ideas are purely my own. -.-.-.- WARNINGS: This books contains violence, severe mental health issues (including suicide) and coarse language that a certain Steve Rogers wouldn't approve of. -.-.-.- HIGHEST RANKINGS: #2 hydraexperiment - 23.01.24 #4 adoptedbyavengers - 23.01.23

Steve Rogers may have been held captive in ice for seventy years, but Hydra wasn't. They were busy. Hundreds of failed attempts at creating the next generation of super soldiers. Not a single one survived. Sixty years' of science and they were going to pull the plug. Until it clicked. All it took were his genes. ***** She didn't have a name, and she didn't have a home. She wasn't born. She wasn't raised. She was developed. Her man-made womb. Her incubator. Her cell. For the first eight years of her life, it's all she knew. They showed her what life was like for those who were born, those who had parents, those in the real world. They showed her so she could understand how they lived, how they went to school, how they worked, how they talked, how they walked, how they were. They showed her how to emulate them, how to deceive them, how to read them, and how to kill them. By the time she was eight, she had killed a few hundred people in her training. They gave her the skills. So she used them to escape. ***** OC played by Avery Phillips Trigger warnings may apply to some chapters. "A gift." One guard says to someone else in the room as he leaves. I groan in pain and scrunch myself into a ball, squeezing my eyes shut. Seconds later I hear shuffling and then someone is beside me. "Y/N?" Asks a voice. No- Bucky's voice. My whole body relaxes and I let out a soft breath. He's ok. ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ Staying together has always been the most important thing to Y/N Rogers. After the death of her mother left her an orphaned 15-year-old, her friendship with her older brother Steve and best friend Bucky mattered more than ever. She latched onto them, finding some bittersweet solace in their closeness. In turn, they finished raising her. The three were inseparable. Even now, six years later, nothing has changed. So when Bucky and Steve both leave to fight in the war the last thing she's going to do is stay in Brooklyn. Nothing's too far if it keeps their trio together. Not leaving everything she knows behind, not shoving down feelings she's refused to acknowledge for years, not even risking her life time and time again. It's the kind of commitment fueled by an infinite amount of love, but guaranteed to end in disaster, every single time.
