It was becoming more suffocating to breath the air around him than he thought possible. Each breath burned his insides and stung his neck bitterly. He reached up to rub his neck, wondering if he'd hurt it or something whilst running about. His hands brushed over a few lines along the sides of his neck, decorated with small circles of overly smooth and almost slimy skin.

Francis' eyes widened to the size of saucers. He gripped at his neck over and over. There was something on his neck and it was refusing to come off. He couldn't get it off. He was being strangled by something?? Francis doesn't even know what strangling is! It hurt. It hurt oh so much and he wanted it off, whatever it was.

"Dose awre attachet to yoo-- yoo can' get dem off!" Kris pulled his friend's frantic hands away from his neck, the usually pale skin littered with fresh, red scratches covering the iridescent scales and deep ridges that had appeared on Francis' neck.

Francis Michael Delias is not your average kid. And no that isn't to say he's some tv cliché-- he is abnormal simply because his mom has raised him to be such. While most kids by the age of five are being taught how to read and write, Francis is locked away inside his home with his mom who is reminding him once more that he must not eat too greedily lest his teeth become rotten slugs, sucking away all of his blood. This being only one of the many strange little teachings she has instilled in his brain.
Now what do you think you get when you combine an overly-sheltered and wildly cautious fiver year old with your run of the mill kindergartner looking for a friend? Surely nothing that awful could possibly happen to Francis and his unexpected secret friend.
