Overview- World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) was launched on June 15, 2006, by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization at the United Nations. This date is celebrated every year to give respect to the elderly and spread awareness of how they are neglected and abused in our Indian society. A report from Hindustan Times says, "we frequently believe that the people who pose the biggest threat to us are opportunistic strangers on foggy nights or armed men who might burgle our homes. The unfortunate reality is that the greatest threats of brutal and ongoing violence come from people closest to us, in the private areas of our homes. Elderly people are mistreated and ignored by their own families. The research team's startling discovery was that every second elderly person they spoke with admitted to experiencing maltreatment at the hands of their kin". There are 100 million senior citizens living in India now. In the following three decades, their population is anticipated to triple. Couples are having fewer children and living longer, and three out of four elders still report living with their kids. As a result, fewer persons are accountable for far longer stretches of elderly care than in the past. As the bodies and minds of aging parents decrease, relationships within families have become much more strained in congested urban environments. https://projectglobalcureorganization.wordpress.com/2022/08/01/elder-abuse-the-reality-of-indias-elderly-people/All Rights Reserved
