It's been 6 years since the GIW found him. They saved him from the building collapse and away from the dangers of the world. They raised him and taught him everything he needed to know to survive. They helped him become powerful.
At least that's what they said.
After being stuck with the GIW for 3 years. They decided to bring Danny in to their work. They needed a new test subject. Why not make Danny one of theirs. He already knew how to fight. So they asked the boy to see why their ghost portal wouldn't work. He went inside and died.
Well, half way died.
The GIW had succeeded. They had a new weapon.
Who would do everything they said. They were his family after all.

Danny wasn't a Fenton. He wasn't their original child, in fact, he was their nephew. A nephew they lied to. They thought they were helping him, but all it did was cause him to resent them. Death Of Danny Fenton
Danny is proclaimed "dead" by his parents after passing out from exhaustion after a long drawn out fight with a ghost. Do too his ghost half being unstable it causes his human half to appear deceased. Danny slipped into a comatose state and his ghost half glitched. Afraid that Danny may turn into a ghost like the ones they had been fighting they made a special coffin for him and they put deep in the ocean. Anyone who asked was told that they had held a private funeral and there was a fake grave with Danny's headstone on it as well. Someone finds the coffin, someone bat-like.
A Ghostly Field Trip
Danny and White had a hard enough time keeping their secret in the human world. But now their class is going on a field trip right into the belly of the beast, the Ghost Zone. Danny will have to make double sure to keep his ghost half secret while White works to keep his siren powers in check. Their worlds might come crashing down just because of hormonal teenagers, stubborn parents, and ghosts with really bad timing. And it only gets worse once the twins start having memory flashbacks.
