What makes someone successful? Is it their innate characteristics or their acquired qualities?
In psychology, the term 'acquired' refers to something that has been learned through experience. For example, a person who learns to play piano would say they've developed their skills over time. The answer depends on whether you believe in the concept of personality traits. If you do, then you'll agree that some people possess certain traits from birth. These include things such as being extroverted, conscientious, open minded, etc.
However, if you don't believe in personality traits, then you'd probably argue that success comes down to luck, timing, and circumstance.
One study found that people who were born into wealthy families had higher IQ scores than those who weren't. Another study found that kids whose parents went to college were more likely to attend college themselves. And another study showed that children who grew up in poverty were less likely to graduate high school.
Are leaders born leaders or do they acquire leadership by time?
The answer is both. Leadership is not something that we are born with but it develops through experience. It takes time to develop into a leader.
