All best friends Lea and Sky want to do is finish their last year of high school so they can get out of the crummy hand dealt to them by life. Trying to be nice to a downed vampire behind a dumpster ruins that plan. And no, he's not in love. He's at war. And being the weak humans that they are, they're dragged in to serve as blood banks. Even if the girls could punch their way out, one of their captors is a 500-year-old winged demon and the other is a powerful business tycoon. So much for, you know, a future.
Still, perhaps Lea's kindness and Sky's sass can be their kidnappers' undoing. Yet behind it all, something stronger, something older, something hungrier is spreading the vampiric infection, and the general public is catching on.
A romantic horror with an emphasis on vampires that definitely don't sparkle.

Also, depression and I'd say a suicidal tendency do come up (briefly) because of these thoughtless interactions. And, uh, "Stockholm Syndrome" was mentioned, but also in the context of an overall enjoyable read. - Finished story. There are two sequels. Lost and no longer sure what to do, Evelynn runs, to where she doesn't know to which she finds a school that was created to help those like 'her' and then she meets the woman who she knows by her scent alone, but what's odd is that despite never meeting in her life, the woman recongizes her as someone dear to her. Though, Evelynn's biggest concern was, who did this to her and why? If it were possible, Grants eyes go even blanker, as if the life had just left his body. It's a few seconds before his body collapses to his knees and then laggingly onto his face. The creature's slender, skeletal fingers drip with his blood, in its hand, a fresh, still desperately beating heart. Grant's heart. * Julien would be your run of the mill bad girl; smart mouth, always picking fights, doesn't take anyone's crap bad girl. At first they aren't attracted but as time goes on, they begin to fall madly in love. Then there is the story of a male vampire who has done unspeakable evils as a vampire and is eternally brooding and even though he can't help what he is, he tries to be the good, kind hearted lover for his human female. Or better yet, the female finds out her lover is a vampire and begs and pleads to be turned to live eternally young and thus tries everything in her power to become a vampire but the male vampire refuses to turn her so that she does not live a cursed life. After a mysterious man begins to befriend her while working at her job, a night of sex turns into the start of everything she thought she could handle into a whirlwind of challenges. It's easy to kill a person in the movies or in a book because it's fiction. But actually suck the life out of a living being and it be her new reality, that's a whole different ballgame. Nadine Burns must now learn to face being a Newborn vampire in a world where there is no kindhearted feelings and sunshine and rainbows. To top it all, she was turned by one of the most powerful vampire leaders in her city and must also learn how to parade around in vampire politics.Complete
