I'm going to be a father. His heart raced with happiness. His plan had worked. She threw the kit to the floor and began pounding her fists against his chest, sobbing, "Why? Why did you do this to me? What did I ever do to deserve this? You've ruined my life! I hate you... I hate you! And I will never forgive you!" A twisted, guilty joy stirred in his chest. As much as it hurt to see her like this, a selfish part of him felt victorious. He couldn't bear the thought of losing her-so he did what he had to do. If love wasn't enough to keep her, then maybe responsibility would be. At least now, she was tied to him... if not by choice, then by duty. He knew her parents would never let her walk away, not with a baby on the way. And maybe-the child could bring them closer. Maybe it could fix what he broke. He smirked, a dark thought creeping in.
