In 1966, Tom Sweet Jr. enlists in the U.S. Army to serve in the Vietnam War, embarking on a seven-year journey that will see him rise from the rank of private to captain. Throughout this time, he faces intense challenges, forges strong bonds of friendship, and grows into a skilled leader. Each chapter of the book spans a new year, introducing fresh members of his Brothers in Arms (BIA), who are brothers to him. 

By 1973, Tom and his younger brothers-Ben, Marty, Robert, Mikey, Henry, and his cousin Joe-prepare for one final mission in the Vietnam War. Tensions arise when Henry, eager to fight, is told by Tom that he's too young and the risks are too high. Defying Tom's orders, Henry joins the battle anyway. Meanwhile, we will see the development of William Smart, a longtime childhood friend to Ben and a very strong and clever army soldier on how he turned evil threatening to destroy the very brotherhood he once cherished and betraying his own country. Will the brothers in arms survive the war with bombs, deadly traps and burning trees?
