One sees the future as a step forward, but Emerald sees it as another step into darkness. Ever since 2030 the government has found a new way to find criminals, the 10 Day Choosing. When a baby is born they will choose one of four items to keep for the rest of their lives. Not only do these items classify a person, they each have unique abilities. There are four items, the Art item which is a long black stick, similar to those of an orchestra, the second is the Knowledge item which takes the shape of a quill, the next is the Science item which takes the shape of a vial, now the last one is one that no one knows much about, and the common name used for it is the Wrong Choice. Any newborn that chooses this crooked wooden stick is quickly moved to an unknown place and never seen again. Emerald has always despised of this, and one day she finds videos she shouldn't have found. She watches her 10 day old self with the four items laid out in front of her, and to her surprise she chose the Wrong Choice. Why wasn't she taken away? Why is her item the vial? And most importantly Why Choose?

The Island

Shit. The corners of her mouth pull up, and it's so unnatural, it takes me a moment to realize she's smiling. Major plastic surgery? Probably. Click. Did she just lock the door? She locked the door! I spring towards the house phone, dusty from years of doing absolutely nothing, so I can call the police. I don't make it. Halfway there, I trip on my own pant-leg and face plant on the floor. The woman steps over me and retrieves the phone. She looks at it as if it's a foreign object, "This won't be necessary. All I want to do is talk to you." For some reason, instead of screaming, I stay silent. She smiles and pulls out a chair from the kitchen table for me to sit on. When I don't sit, she says, "If you want to know what's going on, then sit." I think about it for a moment. She hasn't hurt me yet, and I have to admit, I am quite curious as to what's going on. 100 years ago, amidst WW3's nuclear bombing, a deadly virus was released in the atmosphere and nearly wiping out the humanity. It lives inside the human brain thriving on the empathy receptors, leading to irrational behaviour and ultimately brain death. To slow the damage, scientists created L.O.V.E, short for Living Off Vital Emotions, a nanovaccine that numbs the virus and switches off all strong emotions. As a last resort and with a dying planet, the Supreme Government created the City, a place to contain the infected survivors suitable for the experiment. Those in the first stages of illness became ideal candidates to receive the neuroinhibitor. Having their feelings restrained and their memory altered, those who come of age are designated a life partner through a Selection process, thus preserving the humankind. A few decades after the trial had started, scientists had a major breakthrough. The nanites, which are highly chemically reactive organisms, are changing their bio-engineered purpose when dopamine levels are high. With a new generation of nanoids, stronger and smarter to fight the battle, the virus doesn't have a chance. Many attempts were made to create a man-made version of synthetic dopamine and each time the outcome was a disaster. Their goal is to create new generations, immune to the virus. These are called Purebloods, the offsprings of those who find pure love, the only cure to save them from a violent death. Running out of time, the Experiment entered in its final stages. To minimize the threats, the Colonies have sent their best soldiers to oversee the trial and protect its key subjects. If only things were going according to plan, or better...stay hidden. |WATTYS 2022 WINNER - HORROR| Shawn, a convicted criminal, never thought she'd see the sun again, let alone call another star system her home. Their task is to set up a base on a supposedly habitable planet and prepare it for colonization. Although the planet has liquid water and a breathable atmosphere, it is believed to host only microbial life. However, upon arriving, Shawn and the rest of the colonists learn that assumption was grossly incorrect. In a brutal attack from rampaging wildlife, everyone but Shawn and four other colonists are killed. The five survivors retreat to the cavernous network beneath the ground seeking safety, but they soon come to a terrible discovery. These caves aren't ordinary caves, and they are no safer down under than they were on the surface. In a futuristic world where only rules, facts and logic are valued; individuality, self expression, free will and creativity were made illegal by the government, who wanted to prevent future conflict, created by individuals with reckless and creative minds. And to prevent from anyone being themselves. Tilda longs to set her imagination free and speak her own mind. She unknowingly was born with the sixth sense, a additional sense, unlike the tradtional five senses. The Sixth Sense is based on creativity, meaning people will have more individualistic minds and cannot be controlled by rules, facts and logic. Those born with the sixth sense, are metahumans known as sensors, who use their sensory to enhance, control and use senses, a source of power allowing sensors to control the world around them. The government sees their senses or "superpowers" as dangerous and they punished all those who have or practise the sixth sense Anyone punished for it, soon mysteriously disappears at the hands of anti sensor government leader Marcus.The cause of the sixth sense ban. When a teacher soon discovers Tilda's sensor potential. She sends Tilda to the sensor hq she runs, where Tilda meets fellow sensor James, who along with her long term friend and sensor Jeanie; joins the rebellious organisation, known as the Wish Sensors. They protect and train sensors, ready for the ban when they take back control of the government, that oppresses them. While Tilda and James grow closer, the rebellion grows with propaganda, threats and sabotage; as Tilda must deal with why fate has made her different to the other sensors . The sensor struggle grows more intense to demonstrate what has been kept from the world.
