A very early draft of an small part of a memoir I'm working on about the experience of having a child with Down syndrome and discovering that the world is not set up for him. The book will be about the joys of him but also about the changes in me the experience has brought. What I'd love is if people would ask questions, or mention topics they'd like to cover. Sometimes when it's just your life you don't think about things from an outside perspective.

Minime {Original Version}
- Ok, ok. I think I've dropped enough hints about the fact that I'm 'different'. I guess I should spill the beans. When I was born, I had a rare cancer- mum had told me this. She didn't tell me anything else about my birth, other than that the kemo therapy went wrong. The doctors were testing a new serum that didn't cooperate with my blood type. It did cure the cancer, but it had a side effect. The serum made my bones and muscles shrink down to about a tenth of their original size. I'm very small for my age, I have to say. I'm quite proud of myself though- I've grown half a millimetre so now I'm about the size of an artline pen. Amy Leebeck is your average 16 year old girl, apart from one tiny detail. She has grown up the size of a doll and faces the tough challenges of living at her size. When she was abducted by a boy fighting a lost cause, Amy thought that her pitiful existence was over. Different- 1) Not the same as another, or each other; Unlike in nature, form or quality. I thought being different was a good thing. You know, the whole 'Im not conforming to you' deal. I thought I was unique, my own person. Apparently not everyone thinks being different is a good thing. They're afraid of my difference. Maybe it's my long white hair? Or my glowing silver eyes? Or it could just be because.... I'm not fully human. I tried to keep it a secret. Really I did. I knew the consequence of something like this getting out. So my secret stayed a secret. The Light That Shines From Above
Heather has lived her entire life believing her mother is crazy. She doesn't believe the stories that were told to her as a child, the stories about men descending from the sky to take her. She rejects the false narratives and tries to help her mother the best she can even if that means constantly moving and preparing for the men to come back. She doesn't envision a life beyond this, never expected to leave her mother until she is forced to in the most unexpected way. When the men from the sky take her instead. *** It was a short debate but enough to push me over the edge. Pher was right. I was making this too difficult. I should just do it. I had been fighting myself on this for too long. I didn't care what he was, I wanted this. I stared at his lips as he spoke, my own tingling in response. "I could show you that if you wanted. Most of the other things you can do are outside of the esta-" I pushed up on my toes and crashed my mouth to his. My actions were unexpected and rushed. I could tell by his reaction. He reared back but not enough to separate us. His hand flashing to my arm to still us and then he froze. I thought for a second, based on his lack of response, I had picked the wrong time. Or maybe he had changed his mind from two days ago. I went to pull away, flushing lightly with embarrassment. I didn't get to disconnect our lips before he unfroze and reacted. His grip tightened, his other one going to my hair to hold my head in place as he kissed me back with more intent than I even had started with. My body flushed for a different reason now.Complete

The world is screwed up place. Everyone in it just wants peace when it isn't promised to nobody. We work for ourselves to try to improve our ways of life only for someone who has more to take it. Everything is about monetary gain and if you don't got the green you better have a way to survive. Help wont come when you need it. There is no home and having shame is a simple thing of the past. We all tell people to have hope. We tell them that if they work hard enough that change will eventually come and with that change they will find their happy ending. I've watched humans kill for that happy ending. I've committed murder when a tyrant thought to torture the only good thing in this world I have ever found in this fucked up place. Even when I tried to save it, I still lost it. Yeah, you heard right. I am no saint. This world is far from cupcake and t ,rainbows and their isn't not one soul that could tell me different. I have had to fight to survive since the day I lii I broke out of an egg into this world. No one has ever known where I came from and from the moment I got here I've never know any kindness. I have always been the odd one out because I was different. I'm not talking different just because the color of my skin. I'm talking different because when I get well and truly pissed I turn into a vicious monster. I'm not talking a kiddie monster like the one that creeps under your bed while you are sleeping or chooses to hide in your closet. I'm the type that you cant get away from. I travel through space and time. If I want you, I will have you. I have the powers of invisibility on my side, and you will never see me coming. There is no one that can catch me because I can poof away at the drop of a hat. If that doesn't scare you than the thousands of scars on my body and my size definitely will. Upon him growing him, he got into quite a lot of trouble that at one point he got banished from his homeland. He was looked down upon for being different from others. Banished from his relame he seeks for a fresh new future. He goes and seeks to another world to stay in being Midgard(Earth). Hoping for a better life.Complete
