Roland doesn't know what's going on. One minute he's walking to work, and the next he's being dragged into a shadow war spanning back to Ancient Japan. Ancient ninjas and assassins fought against their mortal enemy, the Khans. Now, modern-day shinobi fight against the descendants of the Khans, struggling in the shadows. And Roland has managed to get caught up in it. Now he has to make a choice, one that could end the war, or escalate it into the light. 

Trinity is at a crossroads. She's being sent on a mission to kill one of the major players in the war against the Khans' descendants that - if successful - could tip the war towards an end. If she fails, then the shinobi will die out, and the Khans will win. But the choice presenting itself to her is a dangerous one. But now his son is dead, it's his fault, and the boy who was like another son to him is gone. Simply because Shintaro was too cowardly to try to put up a fight against his father. No matter how many times he convinced himself, he was afraid. Afraid of losing, afraid of his father. But he is done sitting back and doing nothing. He isn't about to give up this time. He isn't going to lose anyone else. He's going to defeat his father once and for all. He is going to get Kai back.
