With little choice, 25 year old Martha Smyth agrees to an arranged marriage to William Andersen. Martha finds herself a wife in name only, caring for William's two children while he serves in the Union Army. While William is away the two begin to exchange letters, will it be enough to make a marriage of convenience blossom into a marriage of love?

!!Disclaimer!!
This story is largely inspired by a book by Claire Sanders. I've changed characters names and most of the basic plot, but the idea is still inspired by her original book.

Zane Williams finds himself in an arranged marriage chosen by his overbearing mother. But when he ducks out of his own wedding due to an unexpected call of duty, he has no idea what he's in for when he returns home. Meet Mae Westbrook, now Mae Williams, who moves into Zane's house after the wedding. Here's the kicker: Zane mistakes her for the housekeeper his mom was planning to hire as Mae's assistant around the house. Terrified that Zane will despise her, Mae introduces herself as 'Kate,' the housekeeper. What follows is a comedy of errors that will leave you chuckling. As Zane unknowingly grows closer to 'Kate', he contemplates divorce - after all, he's never even met his wife! But things get even crazier when his ex-girlfriend, Ruth, enters the picture, determined to win Zane back. With Ruth scheming, Mae's fear of abandonment, and Zane's utter confusion, you won't believe the tangled web of love and misunderstandings that follows. And the real chaos begins when Xavier Williams, Zane's cousin, pays a visit. Secrets unravel, truths emerge, and you'll be laughing, gasping, and cheering for this mismatched couple (I hope). "I didn't know your eyes were green," Mae muttered. "I've always known yours are brown," he whispered, pulling her closer. "Before you were Kate or Mae, I know your eyes are brown." "Don't do this to me," Mae said softly, "I don't want to fall." Zane sat up and halted right as their lips brushed together, "I'll catch you if you fall."
