The Shawshank Redemption

At Shawshank State Penitentiary, banker Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is given two consecutive life sentences in 1947 after being found guilty of killing his wife and her boyfriend at his home. Andy rapidly becomes pals with life-sentenced drug trafficker Ellis "Red" Redding (Morgan Freeman). Red finds Andy a rock hammer so he may carve tiny stone chess pieces. Red later presents him with a sizable Rita Hayworth poster, which is later followed by pictures of Marilyn Monroe and Raquel Welch. Andy is often attacked by the "bull queer" group "the Sisters" and their leader, Bogs, while working in the prison laundry (Mark Rolston).
Andy hears the cruel chief guard Byron Hadley (Clancy Brown) lamenting taxes on an upcoming bequest in 1949 and tells him of a legal loophole. Bogs is transported to a different prison after Hadley severely beats him following yet another vicious attack by the Sisters that almost killed Andy. Andy is not assaulted once more. As an excuse for Andy to handle financial responsibilities for the jail, Warden Samuel Norton (Bob Gunton) meets with Andy and reassigns him to the prison library to help elderly inmate Brooks Hatlen (James Whitmore). Other Shawshank guards as well as guards from neighboring prisons quickly turn to him for advice and expertise. Andy starts requesting money for the outdated library in weekly letters to the state legislature.
