For beautiful and bright Adelaide James, life was truly anything but. After having her heart broken by her unfaithful boyfriend and struggling to find a decent job, Adelaide turns to exotic dancing as a way to make ends meet.

Although Adelaide does her best to try to live normally and keep a positive outlook, her trauma and heartache make daily life a daunting task. With a mentally ill mother, and fear of being on the brink of homelessness by being tossed out of her cousin's mansion, Adelaide can barely keep up with the constant misfortune that seems to come in spades for her.

Finally, an olive branch for some emotional relief comes when Adelaide's boss insists she uses her identity in order to tap into her insurance benefits and attend therapy. Being an intern at a reputable financial company by day with no other options, Adelaide finally hits rock bottom and agrees to the ridiculous plan.

Desperate for some cosmic shift or change to happen within her life, Adelaide follows through for regular therapy. Just as she feels things could start to go better in her life, in walks her new therapist, Dr. Maxon McVay, bringing a whole new set of problems Adelaide had never bargained for.
