The imprisoned Duchess of Eodel becomes the reluctant leader of a revolution...against her husband's faction. 

Anya, formerly the Lady of the country earldom of Allimor, struggles adjusting to her role as the perfect Eodellan Duchess and wife of the Traditionalist leader. When she discovers her husband --the calculating and misogynistic Duke of Eodel, the most powerful province in the kingdom-- has discovered the secret of her father's hidden silver mines and has plans to assassinate her father, she tries to warn him and save his Reformist movement. When a traitor close to her murders her father, Anya's Reformist beliefs are revealed to the Duke, who locks her away as a threat to his reputation and position. With help from unlikely allies in a den of vipers, she escapes and finds herself the new leader of the Reformists in her father's name. But her rumors, mischief, and sabotage take a dark turn when one of her rumors is fulfilled...and the king is assassinated. With civil war imminent and skirmishes breaking out throughout the provinces, Anya heads to the front lines to stop the kingdom from being torn asunder, only to realize complete surrender might be the only real choice.
