Sa isang isla ng Montala, matiwasay na namumuhay ang aliping si Sapira sa ilalim ng proteksyon ni Datu Sakay. Maliban sa mga panahong nakikipagsapakan siya sa mga binatilyong katribo at naglalamyerda sa pusod ng gubat na ipinagbabawal sa kanya ng kanyang Inay, mabait at masunurin ang dalagita.

Isang pangyayari ang nakatakdang magpabago sa kanyang buhay. Isang pangyayaring magdadala sa kanya sa bingit ng pakikipagsapalaran, paglalakbay, at panganib. Mga bagay na hindi naman niya ginusto.
