With vampires making up 30% of earth's population, an underpaid Detroit nurse, who wants nothing to do with them, finds himself stuck with one as his personal blood bank out of pity for the guy. 

Later on they find each other in the midst of the fragile peace between species getting torn apart.

Vampires and humans were at war ages ago, somehow they reached peace. A peace that was built on fear and was as fragile as a flower. Today that peace is being threatened but that's not what this story is about. 

I'm here to tell you a love story because, who wouldn't appreciate a great love story in times of war?

After a mysterious man begins to befriend her while working at her job, a night of sex turns into the start of everything she thought she could handle into a whirlwind of challenges. It's easy to kill a person in the movies or in a book because it's fiction. But actually suck the life out of a living being and it be her new reality, that's a whole different ballgame. Nadine Burns must now learn to face being a Newborn vampire in a world where there is no kindhearted feelings and sunshine and rainbows. To top it all, she was turned by one of the most powerful vampire leaders in her city and must also learn how to parade around in vampire politics.
