EMBER: Four years after the apocalypse, the United States is in ruins. We're still not sure of how many are still our there, struggling to survive. It could be just me and Sonia. Life is a quiet nightmare. The silence of the new world is enough to drive anyone over the edge of sanity. Yet we know we are being followed and watched by a mysterious group of hooded warriors. Their goals are unknown. If this were four years ago, we would just call the police. But this is the apocalypse. And there's no one left but us.

SONIA: Ember. That is the name of my best friend who has stuck with me through and through. A best friend can turn the most dauntless endeavors into the most memorable experiences. Only one problem. This is the new world. This is the world after the apocalypse. And a hike in the mountains is not exciting and adventurous when you're starving, you're lost, and you're being chased relentlessly by mysterious warriors of whom you only know one thing. They. Will. Kill. You.

Ember's Cupid by Dez_Lafey
12 parts Complete
Mason and I were close. I looked up to him, not as a lover but as a partner. He was my best friend, my other half, a shoulder to lean on; Mason was the best person I could have ever possibly met. I saw him not as most women see men but as they see their siblings. Even with our cupid status, we hadn't believed in love, we only believed in loyalty. "What is it like to be in love?" He quietly giggled and shook his head. "I do not know; I've never been in love before. I think that it is like caring for someone so deeply that you would put their needs before your own. Being in love is like being with your best friend all the time, they know you better than anyone else does, they are someone who helps you become a better person just by being there. Being in love is... well... it is knowing and accepting and believing in them no matter whom else is there. You will always care for them, even if you aren't there with them. If you are truly in love then nothing will ever change that." He promised me that he would always be there even in my darkest moments, but it turned out... that is was nothing but a lie. It was only a lie that our kind had told themselves, to secure their mental state. Walking down the alleys of the streets, to not be seen, I turn my head in the opposite direction of my destination. Footprints, we left footprints in the snow; of course they were faint and were soon ready to disappear yet they were still there. At that point in time they were there whether it was seen or not. I guess each of us were humans at one point, whether we were seen or not, we were still there. Then one day we weren't, we disappeared only to be covered by the lies that our loved ones told themselves to understand that missing feeling. We were there and then we weren't just as the footprints in the snow.

*COMPLETED* When Rosie turned thirty-one with nothing to show for it, she panicked. Suddenly it felt like her biological clock was ticking, but she didn't want to settle for a man for the sake of having a child. So, after falling down a rabbit hole of research online, she decided to find herself a sperm donor. A strangely vague profile ends up catching her interest. The only real thing she learned about him was that his name was Levi and he was in the military. One invasive and intimate procedure later, Lily was conceived. It was a few months after her daughter was born, when Rosie should have been fretting about the price of nappies and lack of sleep, her worries were overshadowed by an event she never, ever could have predicted: a zombie outbreak. Rosie locked herself away in Finches tower block, stocked up on supplies from abandoned neighbouring flats, and lived every day with the sole purpose of keeping her daughter alive. Doing so meant avoiding the dead as well as the living. She'd been doing a decent job of it so far. Until a man breaks into the tower block, but it wasn't just any man. It was Levi, Lily's literal sperm donor. And he was there to save them. -- When a bioweapon was released on UK soil, Staff Sergeant Levi James Brackley was sent from pillar to post in an attempt to help neutralise and contain. Once it was clear neither was possible the last resort was to form a safe zone on the Isle of Wight. Levi decided to stay behind. The last evac chopper left without him on board. He knew it was a shot in the dark, that they were probably dead already, but he had to try. Without knowing it, they'd become a beacon of light during the darkest time of his life. Now it was his turn to be there's.
