Bella made the choice to follow James to their father, Bella never wanted to go but she saw this as a opportunity to make Jame's life hell. But what she didn't know is that Renee already warned Charlie of this and Charlie stuck up for his son.
Charlie always supported his son, even made him happy with letting him decorate whatever he wanted, you don't have to ask to see whose the favorite child. (Not that it was much of a choice in the matter).
