A Thousand Butterflies (SAMPLE)
1 part Complete When Aponi is forced into a treatment facility for her eating disorder, falling in love is the last thing on her mind, until she meets Finn.
*****
Aponi Hall had other plans for the final days of summer. She wanted to get her life together, earn a bit more money at the water park where she worked, and spend time with her boyfriend of four years. Those plans are shattered when Aponi's mom gives her an ultimatum: get help for her eating disorder or move out.
Against all of her instincts, Aponi agrees to join the in-patient ranks at Horizons, a residential treatment center in Old Forge, New York. There, Aponi meets a group of women who will touch her life and forever change the direction of it. The most notable among them is Finn Sullivan, Aponi's new roommate.
Finn, an unfiltered and unapologetic artist from Brooklyn, has some serious issues. At just 23 years old, Finn knows what it means to come from a broken home, deal with a hereditary heart condition, and endure a volatile relationship with food.
One more problem gets added to the pile when Finn finds herself falling for Aponi (who Finn believes to be straight) while they navigate through recovery together.
But both girls are changing in monumental ways. After Aponi experiences a romantic awakening and reciprocates feelings for Finn, it seems nothing should stand in the way of their love.
Well, nothing except for Aponi's long-term boyfriend Tokala, who plans to marry her and preserve their indigenous heritage.
And maybe Finn's vengeful, lovesick ex-girlfriend, who is also a patient at Horizons.
As a series of external forces intervene on their budding relationship, Aponi and Finn soon find that recovery may be the easy part.
