During the final battle with Teech, as they both use their strongest attacks on each other, clashing and splitting the sky. As the dust clears we can see that Teech is no where to be seen, and with Luffy barely clinging onto life, he says "I'm Monkey D Luffy, and I've become king of the pirates..."
