NICOLE TANG can memorize the dictionary, recite mathematical formulas, beat every calculator... everything except make friends. However, she has less than six months left before the end of her senior year of high school. Soon, she'll be off to college-out of one minefield and into a bigger one. She's basically resigned herself to the fact that she will not make any new friends for the rest of her life, and be stuck in eternal loneliness. However, there is one person who has always been there for her: MAYA FISHER. Maya and Nicole met eight years ago, and they have been inseparable ever since. Even though Maya has the ability to make a new best friend, she's always left that honor to Nicole. Before Maya's fifteenth birthday, she receives a letter of advice from her cousin, ALLISON BOWLING- the person behind Nicole's inability to socialize. Nicole decides that this is the last time she can really be there for Maya before she leaves. Thus, they take on every challenge that Allison poses. Will Nicole be alone forever, or will this letter change how she sees herself and the world around her? Read to find out!

Nicole often submerges herself in her studies, enjoying the steady calculations of her homework rather than dealing with the confusing emotional turmoil most high school girls have to deal with. She has a routine. Lose herself in homework. Lose herself in dance. Lose herself in sleep. Great, right? Then one day, her calculus teacher decides to jostle her routine by requesting her to tutor Dustin, the basketball player who can't quite understand those cold calculations. Total cliché, right? But as time goes on, Dustin starts realizing high school isn't all about fitting in, and Nicole starts to realize that strong emotions are all part of the thrill of being a teen.
